Although it’s only 2 week from Dragon Age 2 having been released, the modding community has already pumped out enough mods for some fan favorites to emerge. Aesthetic mods, gameplay mods, and plain old “cheat” mods, here they are for your downloading pleasure:
1. Chargen Revamp
When creating a character in vanilla Dragon Age 2, you can either select the default model, lovingly crafted with personality and style, or you can look like crap. The customization options don’t allow you to create anything that looks even remotely close to the default model; so if you wanted, say, default Hawke with blue eyes and a shaved head, you’d have to settle for someone who looked like Dr. Evil.
Chargen Revamp allows you to customize default Hawke, an option that should have been included by the developers.
2. New Fair Skinned Isabela
If you prefer your pirate chicks to be the fair-skinned, indoorsy type rather than the swarthy, tanned variety,
this mod is for you. It includes ten face variations to go with this fair-skinned Isabela, but no explanation as to how someone can sail the high seas under the sweltering sun and maintain the complexion of a basement-dwelling gamer. I guess a wizard did it.
3. Real Champion Armors
Ever wish you could use the weapons and armor seen in Varric’s initial exaggerated tale without having to wait for the end-game?
This mod makes it possible. You will need to use the experience cheat to level up and gain the prerequisite stats, but you’ll be able to wear any of the three armors, regardless of your class.
4. Gibbed Dragon Age Save Generator
The Dragon Age: Origins saved game import feature is a neat, but if you’ve never played DA:O–or deleted your saved game–then it’s a neat feature that you’ll never get to use. Want to know how a DA:O background will change your DA2 experience?
This mod allows you to create a fully customizable saved game without having to play 30+ hours of DAO.
5. Exaggerated Bethany
Keen observers of detail may have noticed that Bethany was far more buxom in Varric’s initial exaggerated tale than in the “real” story.
This mod replaces Bethany’s normal body with Varric’s version, bumping her bosom size up to back pain-inducing levels.
6. Bidelle’s Cosmetics 2
This mod dramatically increases the vibrancy of the eyes of most characters in the game and adds a dozen eye shadow options for females, ranging from mundane black eyeliner to Blood Mage bleeding mascara, Cleopatra eyeliner, and full-face Geisha makeup.
7. No Restrictions DA2
Ever wonder why a warrior can’t use a bow? Seems fairly straightforward, doesn’t it?
This mod removes all restrictions placed upon weapons and armor, be they attribute, class, or character restrictions. As a Two-Handed warrior, you may not find much use in a mage staff, but at least the option is there.
8. TrufflesDuval Texture Mod
Is Bioware’s 1-gigabyte high-resolution texture pack just not good enough for you? Or are you stuck with DirectX 9 and looking for a way to improve the game’s visuals? Mod-maker TrufflesDuval seeks to meet your needs with his texture pack. He’s presently working through the armor textures, but his current version has already enhanced the scenery.
9. AjuntaPall316s DA 2 Nudie Mods
The internet’s Rule 34 in action,
this mod outfits the female champion with a see-through bra and underwear. It also makes the Desire Demon completely topless, rather than mostly topless, and includes an awkward topless Isabela–though
topless may not be the right word. It seems more like her breasts have melted away the surrounding cloth, resulting in some bizarre x-ray voyeur bustier.
10. Unlock Companion Skill and Weapon Trees
Want a bow-wielding Isabela? Merrill with healing spells? Fenris with sword and shield? This modunlocks all the possibilities by no longer forcing companions into the weapon roles that BioWare intended.
